The Little Ant

Abha C

Genre-Children’s book

Rating- **** 4 stars

My Thoughts- When reading this work I found that both myself and my children loved the illustrations. I actually had to read the book five times in a row before my son would even look at another book to read. The illustrations were bright and inviting. They captured both my young children’s eyes from the front cover.  I loved the simplicity of the wording as it was easily followed. However, it ended too quickly. While my children are toddlers and have short attention spans, they still wanted more!

Hence the reading the book five times! My son wanted more! My daughter touched my computer screen as if she wanted to feel the Ant, rub the nose of the frog and she even kissed the Ant at one point.

This was a family friendly read that I felt brought me closer to my children and gave us an extra few minutes of bonding time.

This is the perfect read for Mothers and fathers and their young children. Great Job Abha.

DWED Interviews Abha C, author of The Little Ant

DWED: First, tell us a little about yourself.

I am a mother to a beautiful eighteen month old and my husband, daughter and I live in sunny California (which is not so sunny at the moment). My personal life really is what inspires me as a writer, particularly my daughter. Just trying to get new fun books to read to her is what gets me writing! My simple belief is that every child deserves to be read to. To that end I started to look for books that not only were interesting for my daughter but also had a learning component to them. This proved to be an impossible task and led to the creation of this book.

DWED: Have you always aspired publish a children’s book?

Actually no, I started after trying to find a picture book that my daughter could follow along and learn a few new words from. I have always loved reading and I want to pass that gift to her.

DWED: Would you say the journey to publishing was easy or hard? Why?

It was the path of least resistance for me. I had the most control over my work via self-publishing and I did like the experience however, I would recommend to all aspiring authors to do their research about which company to choose and learn about promoting your own book.

DWED: Who or what would you say inspired ‘The Little Ant?

I hinted to this before as well, my daughter inspired this book.

DWED: Are you a part of a book club or organization?

I review books via The Masquerade Crew and have my own blog where I review books mainly in the children and young adult categories.

DWED: How does ‘The Little Ant stand out? What does it offer and more importantly what can viewers find within it pages?

This is a must-read since it is a fun book for the children and they also learn a few new words. This makes it a great book to get for them (hint to the parents :) ). The book has a repetitious component to allow the child to get ample exposure to the same words and the illustrations helpthem understand the words better.

DWED: How was the concept of ‘The Little Ant born?

I am not really sure how it started but coincidentally while I was working on the book we had an ant problem in our house. Perhaps some of that inspired me (subconsciously).

DWED: At length how would you describe the feedback for ‘The Little Ant?

The reviews have been very positive. Any one that has read the book has liked it. The US Review of Books also recommended this book. They only recommend about 10% of the books they review so I can not complain about that!

I had almost a thousand people participate in the goodreads giveaway and more than 50% of the winners have read and recommended the book.

DWED: What can we look forward to seeing from you throughout 2013?

I am actually thinking of doing a series with the ant as the main character. I just want to wait and give this book ample exposure before focusing on my next project.

DWED: What would you say to all aspiring authors like yourself?

Just keep believeing. There will always be tough times but things get easier right after that.

DWED: Is there anything we haven’t covered that you would like your readers and potential readers to know about both your work and yourself?

The Little Ant is a story about a girl end that goes to the park and has more of an adventure than she expected! It is a book that was recommended by the US Review of Books as well. I hope you all enjoy reading my book as much as I enjoyed writing it!
